LED Light Bulbs: The Advantages of LED Lighting

LED light bulb technology has come a long way in the recent years.  LED (light emitting diodes) has always been used for many different jobs and found inside all kinds of devices, however the technology has always been too expensive to use.   More recently because production costs have gone down, we have begun to see LED light bulbs used as energy efficient and cost effective replacement to more traditional incandescent lighting.

Basically, LED light bulbs are just tiny light bulbs that fit easily into an electrical circuit and product light by semi-conductor.  But unlike ordinary incandescent bulbs, they don't have a thin filament that will burn out or break, and they don't get especially hot.  LED light bulbs give us many advantages over traditional incandescent lighting and here is why:

Energy Efficiency

In today’s world, the main advantage to using LED light bulbs is that they are more energy efficient. To produce light with traditional light bulbs it requires that a lot of heat (the filament must be heated).  This process uses and wastes more energy.  LED light bulbs produce very little heat because of the semi-conductor technology there is no filament to heat.  LED light bulbs produce brilliant light and offer longer life with using far less energy.

Cost Effective

While LED light bulbs may be more expensive than incandescent lights up front, their lower cost in the long run can make them a better buy.   LED light bulbs are long lasting and extremely rugged.  They don't have a filament that will burn out, so they last much longer. Plus, because they don’t generate much heat, their small plastic bulb makes them a lot more durable. For example a small LED flashlight bulb will last 10 – 15X longer than an incandescent light bulb and will not break when dropped.

The use of LED Light bulbs has brought many opportunities around the globe to use lighting as a more energy efficient and cost effective solution.   Next time when you’re given the opportunity to choose between traditional incandescent lighting and LED lighting, you’ll make the smarter choice.
