The History of LumaBase
Every year on Christmas Eve, our hometown of Downingtown Pennsylvania lines its streets with luminary bags, adding that magical glow so closely associated with the holiday season. Back in 1989, father, son and daughter entrepreneurs assisting the local Historical Society with this event came up with a way to improve upon the cumbersome, messy, sand-filled luminarias being used.
Their bright idea turned into the LumaBase. It quickly became clear how much more convenient these new luminarias were, and JH Specialties, Inc. was formed. Enthusiasm for the LumaBase spread quickly through our small town, and expansion was the obvious next step. Working very hard to show our idea, we gained exposure on QVC and Target stores with a “complete” luminaria kit.
Today, LumaBase offers many different luminarias and related lighting accessories designed to decorate and illuminate all types of seasonal and special events to everyone everywhere. The line of products are carefully designed and chosen for the those who love to decorate their homes, gardens and yards for the four seasons, special events and home décor. The family run company consists of John, the inventor, innovator and president, his wife Christina as sales manager and customer service and Johns’ sister Lisa, art director, writer and photographer. Pat runs the office, Matt runs the warehouse and a sharp devoted team to supporting our company, our customers and our vision.
